Eric Lott, Ph.D., will explore the many ways in which racial identity is masked, performed, commodified and desired. While Dr. Lott will reference the films Bamboozled (Spike Lee, director, 2000) and Imitation of Life (John Stahl, director, 1934; Douglas Sirk, director, 1959), he will also discuss more broadly the tense negotiation between White and Black Americans as they define themselves in, through, against and with each other.
Dr. Lott is a distinguished professor in the English Program at the Graduate Center, City University of New York. He is a cultural historian who has written widely on the politics of U.S. literature, music, performance and intellectual life.

This event is sponsored by the American Studies Program, the Film Studies Program, the Department of English, and the Department of History. For more information, contact ryanam@lemoyne.edu.
